The pinisi or phinisi is a traditional Indonesian two-masted sailing ship. It was mainly built by the Konjo tribe, a sub-ethnic group of Bugis-Makassar mostly residents at the Bulukumba regency of South Sulawesi but was, and still is used widely by the Buginese and Makassarese, mostly for inter-insular transportation, cargo and fishing purposes within Indonesian archipelago.

Sunda Kelapa Harbor at the beginning of the construction period, made with a canal with a length of 810 meters. It then continued during the Dutch rule in 1817, extending it to 1,825 meters.

Sunda Kelapa Port currently has a land area of ​​760 hectares and 16,470 hectares of pond water area, consisting of two main ports and Kalibaru harbor. The main port has a length of 3250 meters and a pool area of ​​about 1,200 meters that can accommodate 70 motor boats. Kalibaru Port is 750 meters in diameter with a land area of ​​343,399 square meters, 42,128.74 square meters, and can accommodate about 65 inter-island vessels and has 31,131 square meters of goods.


 
Goods transported at this port in addition to groceries are food and textiles. For development outside Java, from Sunda Kelapa also transported building materials such as iron concrete and others.

This harbor is also the purpose of dismantling building materials from outside Java such as sawn timber, rattan, kaoliang, copra, and so forth. Unloading of goods at this port is still using the traditional way. In this port is also available warehouse facilities, both ordinary warehouse and fire shed.

Sunda Kelapa Harbor does not look as busy as its glorious period. This port now only serves for inter-island vessels in Indonesia. But given the high historical value, now this port is converted into a historical site. 

The Dutch heritage buildings around the port area is now used as a Museum. There are several museums around the harbor, such as the Maritime Museum, Fatahillah Museum, Puppet Museum and others.

At the front of the area, not far from the entrance of Sunda Kelapa Harbor complex, there is Tourist Information Center Building of North Coast Jakarta. In the inscription, mentioned that the building was inaugurated since 2011 by Governor of Jakarta Fauzi Bowo.
